The programme aims to provide the students with theoretical, practical and applicable knowledge. The approach to teaching ensures this by combining preparatory study, classroom lectures, group projects, individual assignments, and a dissertation as follows:

Lectures:
Lectures are undertaken by the Department of Surveying. Other lectures will be given by industrial associates. From time to time, contributions are also made by lecturers from other Departments within the University.

Group Projects:
Students work on practical cases in groups using the equipment and software provided. "Real life" problems are analysed and studied under lecturers' and industrialists' joint supervision.

Individual Assignments:
Students are given individual short assignments based on the lectures in each module. These are conducted with full staff contact and handed in at the end of the second week of a module.

Dissertation:
A dissertation topic will be chosen relevant to the modules taken, interests and experience of the individual students. The dissertation will be supervised and assessed by the lecturing staff.
